TROY, N.Y. -- A 17-year-old girl is charged with second-degree murder for the shooting death of her father. Police responded to 3022 7th Avenue early Friday. When they arrived, they found Harlan Copeland, 47, dead inside his first-floor apartment. He had been shot once, according to police. Investigators said Copeland's 17-year-old daughter, Trinity, called police around 4:30 a.m. and was brought in for questioning. Police said she told them she went to his house to clear up an argument over his ATM card and then she admitted to shooting him because her father told her to do so. Captain John Cooney said, "For reasons unbeknownst to us, the dad decided it would be best for all parties involved that his life be terminated. He turned to his daughter, asked her to perform the act. She was reluctant at first but eventually after he asked his wishes and has acknowledged to Troy police that with gloves on and a towel wrapped around the action of the weapon, she did in fact fire once at the victim and killed him by firing at his head." Trinity Copeland is charged with second-degree murder and is being held without bail. An autopsy will be performed Saturday at Albany Medical Center.
